Would you personally recommend that? I was going to buy the trilogy pack to survive the summer, but I did research and got mixed reviews.

No. Buy Hegemonia: Legions of Iron instead. Sins of a Solar Empire is in my top three worst games I've ever played.
The AI doesn't learn, so once you find a strategy that works it always does. The balance is off. There's no campaign/storyline. The difficulty modes have no recognizable difference.
Etc. It basically fails completely at gameplay and plot, which I'd argue are the two most important parts of a game.
Although, as a side note, it's gotten generally positive reviews. So you'll probably enjoy it, for some unfathomable reason.

I think I'll buy both when my new laptop arrives. I'm also looking for other RTS games, any recommendations? I love land-based RTS games too-- Empire Earth, Age of Empires, etc.
Dunno what else to get after that. Maybe I'll just amuse myself with the games on Facebook.

Starcraft. Since Wings of Liberty just came out, the Battle Chest should be going down in price.

I would recommend Sins of a Solar Empire only if you get the trilogy. I haven't played enough to comment on C12's comments, but the extra content does make it funner. Also, I try not to memorize strategies for the sake of fun...unless it's a multiplayer online game and I need to use strategy to basically get free win.

Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. I can never get enough of that game. I mostly like the character development and reading graffiti to come up with infection theories, because I'm a dork like that. Oh, and the shooting zombies part is fun too. Batman: Arkham Asylum. I love the whole set-up. This is the way video games should be. The characters are so well done, and the Scarecrow parts, oh man, that's just brilliant. Portal. I've only played this a bit, but I found it really cool. I like the cognitive problem-solving ethic encouraged in it. I've been meaning to find more games to get into. Right now I'm interested in Half-Life, Dragon Age: Origins, and Fall Out 3. I'd really appreciate some feedback on these games.

I have to second Left For Dead 1+2. You don't realise how much fun killing zombies is until you do it, over and over and over again. The fact that each mission is never the same twice is a bonus, too.

Transformers: War for Cybertron.
The gameplay is mediocre, and it lacks in cover functions and some cool melee stuff. But, the visuals are great, the sound design is awesome, and the soundtrack is pretty good. The story is great for Transformers fans (and in keeping with canon!) and the voice acting...
Well, two words:
Peter Cullen.

@ Mortal: I've only played Fallout 2, so I really can't pass judgement on Fallout 3. However, the second game's a good timewaster if you're waiting for the price on the third to go down. But, then again, the third has a giant mech level...

Fallout 3 is pretty good, although you can't kill kids, whether that's a plus or a minus is up to you. You can't keep playing once you beat the game, so unless you do everything before then save right before you embark on the last mission, you will probably have to start over, although that could be a plus, depending on how you look at it. But overall, pretty solid game.
Another good one is Armored Core 4: Answer.

If you get the Broken Steel DLC you can keep playing after the end.
But seriously? Left 4 Dead? That game has like, no replayability at all.
In any case, I was going to recommend Battlefield: Bad Company. But it's not really recommendable, now that I've played it. It feels like someone took Red Faction: Guerilla and Call of Duty, tried to combine them, and failed miserably.
The environment is "destructible." This means that you can blow up everything except what you actually want to blow up. Like buildings. You can knock holes in their walls, but you're not allowed to topple them and kill everyone inside. You may know for a fact that there's an infantryman above you...but you can't blow up the ceiling and laugh as he tumbles to the ground.
The action is pretty constant...but you never, ever have what weapons you need, and you can only rarely get them. I've lost count of the times I've had to use the grenade launcher on my assault rifle to down a goddamn helicopter. I've also meleed to death at least ten tanks.
When you're meleeing a tank, you know the game has failed.

You like Halo. You hate Left 4 Dead for lack of replayability. Reconcile these views, because to me they're mutually exclusive.

Does Left 4 Dead involve Pelicans? If not, it's not as awesome.
